nano gadgets to diagnose diseases including hepatitis

Washington (PTI): Scientists at Pennsylvania State University have developed a nano gadgets, they argue, could diagnose a number of diseases in a single fluid sample, providing immediate results.

A team has created a gadget, a microchip covered with a series of nanowires with DNA sequences that match those of the disease, bacteria or viruses such as hepatitis or HIV.

According to scientists, if the DNA of one of these pathogens is present in a sample, it binds to the nanowire with the sequence matching, a process that changes the conductivity of the wire making it recognized the disease by avoiding false negatives and false positives.

In the test, the team created a chip that was able to detect the presence of DNA from Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.
A prototype with the transistors needed to read the conductivity of individual nanowires is currently developing.
